Work with our Urban Farm team to produce a greater harvest in 2020! Our Hoop House Helpers support our work by planting, harvesting, weeding, and implementing organic integrated pest management practices to reduce pest damage. Beginning this year our organic produce will support Feeding America affiliated local food banks, supporting those who need it the most in our community.
For the foreseeable future, we ask that volunteers pre-register online here. This measure will help us maintain physical distancing of 6 feet, prevent overly crowded worksites, and ensure the safety of all staff and volunteers. Work is available Monday-Friday, with morning shifts around 8-11 AM, and afternoon shifts around 12:30-3:30.
In addition, we are asking that volunteers do not work with us if you are feeling ill in any way. Also, if you have been in contact with an individual who is being tested or has tested positive for Covid-19 please do not work with us at this time. We appreciate your dedication to our mission, but in the interest of everyone’s safety and well-being, we ask that you wait until you’re feeling better. Masks or face coverings are not required, but you are encouraged to bring one.
This is a perfect opportunity for someone looking for an ongoing project, and someone looking to keep a regular volunteer schedule. Hoop House Helpers must be able to keep clear records, comply with organic agricultural practices, and work cooperatively with others from diverse backgrounds. Physical tasks include things such as bending, kneeling, lifting (generally 35 lbs or less independently), standing, and using hand tools for gardening. Please reach out with any concerns, as we are able to make accommodations and have tools such as kneeling pads, etc. A brief 15 minute volunteer orientation is required for all new volunteers.
